Home > The Lothians

Edinburgh & The Lothians Map West Lothian is home to Linlithgow Palace and St Michael's Church, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots and host to many Stewart Kings and Bonnie Prince Charlie. The new towns in the area owe their existence to the coal mining area. Glass making can be seen in Broxburn. The Union Canal is an ideal area for a holiday with pleasure trips up the canal and canal boat restaurants. The Pentland Hills offer some fine walking experiences with views over Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat to the River Forth, its two famous bridges and Fife to the north.

Full of superb pubs and restaurants, Midlothian also offers sights like Crichton Castle with Italian and neo-Greek influence in its architecture, Lauriston Castle and the Scottish Mining Museum and the Edinburgh Butterfly and Insect World. A vast array of ports and docks in Musselburgh are to be explored and Leith, which now hosts the Royal Yacht Britannia.

In East Lothian you will find a mixture of sandy shores and woodland with rivers flowing from the Lammermuir Hills meandering through the picturesque little villages of the area.

In all there are over 22 golf courses in the area between musselburgh and North Berwick. Bird lovers can take a trip to the local bird sanctuary, Bass Rock. This rich agricultural land, a place of outstanding quality, incorporates a lot to see and do including castles, churches and over 200 listed buildings in all.

An extensive list of Edinburgh Hotels, Guest Houses, Self Catering, Bed & Breakfasts (B&B's), Hostels, Camping & Caravanning businesses to meet all your requirements can be found throughout Edinburgh and The Lothian’s.
